TUTORING
I am a qualified physics teacher, an experienced tutor and a consultant physicist. I have a Master of Physics and Astronomy degree from the University of Sheffield, a MPhil in Astronomy from the University of Leeds, a PhD in engineering from Queen Mary University London, a PGCE in physics from the University of Cambridge and I hold QTS. I am experienced with teaching and tutoring for Key Stage 3 through to Degree level in Physics, Astronomy, Engineering, Computing and Data Science. I am a fellow of the Institute of Physics and have delivered training for their members in coding and Data Science.
As a tutor I work with each student as an individual and tailor each session to meet their needs. This enhances the experience for the student, and they are able to learn at the correct pace for them. Often the reason people find a subject difficult is because a small piece of foundation knowledge is missing. In my sessions I asses current understanding, we find the missing piece of knowledge, gain the understanding so the subject matter becomes accessible, and they can develop an affinity with the topic. I have found this the most successful way for students to feel confident, to understand the material and have a successful outcome.
I have worked in a variety of jobs in the astrophysics, physics and engineering world and bring this experience to make the subject alive for my students. Using my experience, I can explain the technology in the world and technology around them making physics real, meaningful and accessible to my students.
I can tutor physics, astronomy, engineering and data science from KS3 up to degree level. I can tutor maths, further maths and computer science from KS3 up to A level. I have a good track record of working with people at all levels.
I am available to tutor both online and face to face in the York area.
